Main characteristics

The R Package for the genetic evaluation of trees was developed within the UMR Biofora. It provides both frequentist and Bayesian statistical tools to build predictive models for breeders, quantitative geneticists and forest genetic resource analysis communities. BreedR aims to assess the genetic value of individuals in a number of different situations, including spatial autocorrelation, genetic/environmental interaction and competition.

This software (developed by the UMR Biogeco) is used to acquire the branch hydraulic conductance data measured at CAVITRON and to calculate the loss of hydraulic conductivity during dehydration, thus making it possible to graphically observe the vulnerability curve in real time during the measurement. Cavisoft also makes it possible to estimate the most common hydraulic features, such as the pressure inducing a 50% loss of hydraulic conductance (P50) or the specific conductivity of the xylem (Ks).

Computree is a processing platform for 3D point clouds obtained from LIDAR sensors or photogrammetry. It gathers algorithms to analyse forest scenes, in order to extract data on tree and stand structure. It is managed by the Computree group, composed of GIP ECOFOR, ONF, Arts et Métiers Paristech, IGN, INRAE and the University of Sherbrooke.

An interface of the Xyl'EM measurement system marketed by Bronkhorst Int under a know-how license with the INRAE. The software, developed by the UMR PIAF, acquires basic physical quantities (water flow, pressure, temperature) to calculate the hydraulic conductance of stem segments as well as the loss of conductance caused by embolism.

A method for diagnosing tree dieback and resilience capacity based on an architectural analysis of aerial tree parts. The ARCHI method is currently available for 10 species: pedunculate oak, sessile oak, pubescent oak, chestnut, beech, Douglas fir, silver fir, Mountain pine, Scots pine and Salzmann pine. A specific application (CNPF-DSF-CIRAD-INRAE) is available for Android phones and tablets. ARCHI Flyer is available here.

Metapop simulates the distribution of monoecious plant meta-populations across heterogeneous landscapes. Based on the theory of quantitative genetics, Metapop describes individuals through an explicit representation of their genetics and spatial position. It is made up of several interacting modules. Metapop, developed in the UMR Biogeco, is open-source software under version 3 of the General Public License (GNU). To download Metapop and a complete description of how to use it, click here.

For-Eval is an application that makes it possible to asses the characteristics of French forest soils through ecological indicators. FOR-EVAL aims to promote sustainable forest management by means of simple diagnostics that can be carried out in the field. The application is entirely free of charge and is available on Google Play. The INRAE and ONF designers can be contacted at this email address: for-eval (at)

WIDEa is R-based software aiming to provide users with a range of functionalities to explore, manage, clean and analyse "big" environmental and (in/ex situ) experimental data.
